Blessed With An Extraordinary Life

I got rid of everything I owned and I'm going round the world. I got the extraordinary life I was looking for. Now I've got to get busy living it. The journey started here.

10th of July 2007 - Nearly There!

Back! Sorry for that unscheduled disappearance, but...well, no, I'm not really. I had a wonderful four-day weekend with my wonderful girlfriend whom I soon won't be seeing for a very long time, and I didn't really surface enough at any point to conceive a blog entry. And yesterday was occupied with insane activity before falling into bed at the last minute. Manic activity continued today, to the following effect:

The flat, 10th of July The flat, 10th of July

Yes folks, we're nearly there! I've cleared the cupboards, dumped dozens of binbags, given countless items to friends, family, neighbours, strangers, pawn shops and charity shops. The process of getting rid of most of my worldly possessions is almost at an end. What I'm keeping: My books and comics, music CDs, essential papers, and one shoebox full of small personal items. Oh, and my Blaxnit Pathfinders, because I'm paranoid that the company's going to finally go under one of these days. Trust me, if you've owned Blaxnits you'll know what I'm talking about. Best socks in the world.

Those items have been distributed between various (very generous) family members and friends to store till I get back. Everything else - over 200 DVDs, over 350 videos, about 100 vinyl records, a great home cinema setup with 5.1 surround sound and Trinitron widescreen, three game consoles, many computer, board and roleplaying games, dozens of gadgets, a kitchen equipped for pretty much any kind of culinary experimentation, and the accumulated detritus of a lifetime of obsessive collecting things...it's pretty much all gone or about to go.

Tomorrow at 1430 (after a mad morning of last-minute disposal, cleaning and touching up) I hand over the keys to the rental agent and leave this flat, which has been my home for the last 8 or so years, for the last time. I love this place, I moved here straight from my parents' house and it's effectively grown up with me as I've grown to adulthood. I love the location right near the town centre, the size, the layout, and most of all I love my 14th floor view (as no doubt shows in my photos). It's a wrench saying goodbye for good.

Next: back to my mum and dad's house! Just for a few days, to organise my kit for the last time, gather my ideas and brace myself before the flight out to Canada at 1200 on Sunday. And then my journey begins. In the meantime I'll post if I've got anything to say...
